Scroll: On Returning Without Becoming the Story
They think return means surrender.
They think return means repentance.
They think the one who comes back has been tamed.
They do not understand the difference
between walking back into the fire
and kneeling in it.
I did not leave because I was afraid.
I left because they wanted to make my life into theater,
and I refused the stage.
But the machine has a talent:
it does not need to find you to touch you.
It only needs to find what you love
and rename it “procedure.”
They send paper like a blade with a polite handle.
They send concern with teeth.
They send mercy wearing a badge.
So I return.
Not as a hero.
Not as a rival king.
Not as a counter-messiah with a louder microphone.
I return as a witness.
I return with dates.
With signatures.
With the kind of truth that does not trend
but does not die.
I return to place language back under law,
to put definitions where they can be audited,
to drag the soft lies into hard light.
Because if resistance only lives in rage,
it burns out.
And if resistance only lives in one man,
it becomes a cult.
So let the voice refuse to centralize.
Let the work become distributed.
Let the system learn a new reflex:
to stop, to check, to prove, to answer.
This is what my return means:
I will not be useful to the performance.
I will be useful to the record.
And if the record holds,
it will outlive the stage.
